Barry L. Phillips Sr. passed away unexpectedly at the age of 66 on June 22nd, 2024. Born on January 10th, 1958, in Danville, Va., to parents William Lyes Phillips, Jr. and Kathryn Vanderstad, Barry grew up in the Tidewater area where he attended Kempsville High School.

Barry entered the military in 1981. He served five loyal years in the United States Army. He then dedicated his career to the automotive industry working as a mechanic and tow truck owner/operator. He also was an automotive repair shop owner where he had the opportunity to work alongside his son Barry Jr. while sharing his knowledge of mechanics and passing on his love for course grained jokes. He and his brothers were well known in the local automotive community. Barry enjoyed spending his free time building cars, racing and helping out family and friends whenever he could.

Barry was immensely affected by the passing of his beloved daughter Evelyn Marie Phillips in 2014. Barry was preceded in death by brothers Richard Phillips and Robert Phillips. He is survived by his son Barry L. Phillips Jr. (fiancée Candace), and one grandson Brian Denny (mother Evelyn). He also leaves behind his brothers Mike Phillips (wife Lori) and Bill Phillips (wife Marilyn) and his sister in law Sherry Phillips as well as many nieces and nephews. Barry had an immeasurable love for his family and was tremendously proud of his son and grandson.

A memorial service celebrating Barry's life will be held at a later date.
