Obituary For Bruce Francis Smith

Virginia Beach

Bruce Francis Smith departed this earth on September 23, 2013. He was born May 26, 1947 in Acushnet, Mass to Francis Smith and Dorothy Furtado.

He was predeceased by his brother Wayne and his daughter Paula Williams. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 43 years, Kathryn Smith; and 4 children: Kyra Bice and husband Paul, Karmell Thacker and husband Ron, Kenneth Draskovic and wife Pam, and Kristal Trujillo and husband Rueben. There are eleven grandchildren: Jami Maxey, Leah Diestel, Zach Draskovic, Adam Chavez, Christian Chavez, Angel Chavez, Elijah Chavez, Bethany Trujillo, Trinity Trujillo, Emerald May and Phillip Smith: and 8 great grandchildren.

With 26 years of honorable service to his country, Sergeant Major Smith retired in 1990 from the US Army. In 1995 Bruce earned an AAS in Accounting and an AAS in Management from Tidewater Community College, graduating with high honors: Magna Cum Laude. He later attended the Ames International School of Ministry. On August 12, 2012 Bruce was ordained as a Minister of Christ, which he considered his greatest life achievement.

During the past seven years, Bruce and his wife ministered as Chaplains to Alzheimer's patients, and enjoyed Friday night Bible studies as another way to share their passion for teaching the Word of God.

A Celebration of Life memorial will be held at 3:00 P.M., Sunday, September 29, at Bridge Church, located at 3168 Indian River Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23456.

    Our sincere condolences to Kathryn and the rest of the family. Bruce was one of a kind. He will be missed by all. He is now in a better place asking the Lord all those question he needed answers to.
