Obituary For C. Brantley Allen

CHESAPEAKE, VIRGINIA

C. Brantley Allen, 55, laid claim to the promise of the resurrection on Tuesday, 7 June 2011 in a local hospital. He was the son of Maxine M. Earley and the late Carlton D. Allen, and was predeceased by his step-father, James N. Earley.

Brantley is survived by his Mother, Maxine M. Earley, and a Step-mother, Mary Allen of Jackson, NC. He is also survived by two brothers ~ James N. Earley, II, and sister-in-law, Phyllis R. Earley, a niece Alacia L. Earley, a nephew B. Nathan Earley; and Christopher L. Earley, and sister-in-law, Carie D. Earley, and nieces Kelsey Smith and Avalon Earley. There are also numerous beloved Aunts and cousins.

Brantley was a 1974 Graduate of Great Bridge High School, and held a baccalaureate degree in Political Science from Virginia Wesleyan College (1978), and another in Secondary Education from ODU (1986). He was a High School teacher in US Government and Economics, and later in his career, worked as a tutor for the Sylvan Learning Center. He was also a faculty Sponsor for the Key Club, while at Great Bridge High.

Brantley was devoted to family and a wide array of friends, and spent many happy hours as a "gentleman farmer," keeping a backyard garden that was the envy of the neighborhood. He freely gave away extraordinary, home-grown fresh vegetables and produce all season long. He also tended roses along the borders of his "farm."

As a Member of the Body of Christ in Great Bridge UMC, Brantley served as Usher and gracious supporter of, and participant in, its life and ministry.

A Celebration of Brantley's life will be held on Monday, 13 June 2011, at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary of Great Bridge United Methodist Church, corner of Stadium Dr. and S. Battlefield Blvd, in Chesapeake.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the "Jim Earley Memorial Scholarship Fund," in care of Great Bridge UMC, 201 Stadium Dr., Chesapeake, VA 23322.

I cannot imagine what it will be like to visit Moselle and not have Brantley walk through the door. He was always smiling and laughing with us. Know that he is with God and he will be taken care of. God Bless the family and give them the strength to go on.

I am so sorry that Mr. Allen is no longer with us, but I rejoice with you knowing that he has "laid claim to the promise of the resurrection." Mr. Allen was one of my favorite teachers at GBHS. I really enjoyed his enthusiasm for the material and the personal interest that he took in each student.

Mr. Brantley, as I fondly call him, is a very good man. Although we also see each other at Sylvan about twice a week, he had become a very good friend. I would miss his warm hello and how are you. Be with our Lord, Mr. Brantley. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.

I have such wonderful memories of "Mr. Allen" at GBHS. May the beauty of his memory outshine the sadness of his passing.

My dear sweet friend, Brantley, I will miss our dinners together and the lovely gifts of vegetables and roses you brought me from you garden. I am so sad that I will no longer be able to share the gift of your friendship. You will be sorely missed.

I am saddened at your loss. I did have Mr. Allen's class while I was at GBHS as well as I knew out of the classroom as I was also friends and graduated with Chris. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the family and wish you would think of all the good times with Brantley. Sincerely, Charles Miller

Dear Brantley's Family, What a beautiful tribute to your love one yesterday! It was a true representation of Brantley and his life. I could see him in all that was said. I worked with him at GBH and my son had him as a government teacher. He brought many smiles to me during our time together! My sympathy to you all. Terry Putman
