Obituary For Candace Selina Grantham

Newport News - Candace Selina Grantham (King), born June 26, 1952, in Oklahoma to the late Luther B. King and Della B. Farren, passed away on November 25, 2025. A beloved woman, she was known for her kindness, strength, and generous spirit.

Candace met the late Henry Lee Grantham while both were working as welders at the Newport News Shipyard. They married and had two children, Tamara L. Grantham-Drumgoole (Roger Jr.) and Christopher L. Grantham. She is survived by her children, sisters, Sandra King Smyth (Robert) and Kaselda King Mone (Peter), who loved her dearly.

Candace was affectionately called “Mamaws” by her seven grandchildren: Damien S. Grantham, Jerry L. Hamilton III, Aya A. L. Hamilton, Shantel S. Hamilton, Devanté R. Drumgoole, Roger L. Drumgoole III, and Rihanna L. Drumgoole, and she cherished her eleven great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Candace loved spending time with her family. She adored the beach, feeling the sand between her toes and the sun on her face. She enjoyed karaoke, singing her heart out, making jewelry for loved ones, and laughing with her closest friends, Exzeal Palmer and Sonia Thacker, who knew her as “Candy.” They shared many joyful years together while working at Walmart for over 20 years.
