Obituary For Carolyn Maria Storm

Carolyn Maria Storm

October 4, 1946 - January 20, 2025

Carolyn Maria Storm, a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Chesapeake, Virginia, on January 20, 2025, at the age of 78. Her legacy of devotion, resilience, and unwavering dedication to her family will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew her.

Born on October 4, 1946 in Wyandotte, Michigan, to Sigmund Petosky and Helen Broome, Carolyn grew up with an unbreakable spirit, sense of adventure, and a strong work ethic that shaped her life in remarkable ways. She found joy in swimming and art, and her determination was evident when she achieved the impressive feat of swimming across the Detroit River.

Carolyn's life took a significant turn when she met her future husband, Richard Storm, during a diving lesson. Their first date, a fishing trip with Carolyn's father, Sigmund Petosky, marked the beginning of a beautiful journey together. They had two children, Lia and Brian, and Carolyn devoted herself to raising them, creating a warm and welcoming home filled with love, music, and delicious homemade dinners. Those who had the pleasure of visiting her home will fondly remember her favorite song, "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond, which was played frequently during gatherings with friends and family, instantly setting the tone for memorable times together.

As her children grew older, Carolyn pursued a career in marketing for RJ Reynolds, showcasing her talent and dedication. After her children graduated from high school, Carolyn and Richard moved to Kerr Lake, North Carolina, where they built a beautiful home and wonderful memories with family and friends, enjoying boating, fishing, barbequing, and campfires under the stars.

As they grew older, Carolyn and Richard relocated to Chesapeake, Virginia, to be closer to their daughter, Lia, and grandchildren, Cameron, Caleb, and Kendall. Carolyn's love for her family was evident in everything she did, from cooking special meals and deserts for the holidays to supporting her grandchildren’s interests and passions.

Carolyn was a devoted and enthusiastic sports fan, whose unwavering dedication to her beloved teams was a hallmark of her vibrant personality. She proudly cheered on the Michigan Wolverines, Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers, and Detroit Red Wings, never faltering in her loyalty and support for the teams that brought her so much joy throughout the years. Her team spirit was contagious and often on full display, as she would decorate her house with team colors and memorabilia to show her support, creating a festive atmosphere that was infectious to all who visited. Her love for Michigan sports was more than just a hobby – it was a passion that connected her to friends and family.

Carolyn is survived by her son, Brian (Michelle Joy), and five grandchildren: Cameron Anderson, Caleb Anderson, Kendall Anderson, Sloane Storm, and Kuno Storm. Her family and friends will deeply miss her, but they will continue to celebrate her life and legacy.

A memorial service will be held this summer at Elizabeth Park in Trenton, Michigan, where friends and family can gather to share stories and memories of Carolyn's remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the American Cancer Society (ACS) (Click Here to Donate) in honor of Carolyn's memory.

As we remember Carolyn, we celebrate her love, her spirit, and the countless ways she touched the lives of those around her. Her memory will continue to inspire us to live with joy, kindness, and adventure, just as she did. Rest in peace, dear Carolyn.
