Obituary For Charleen Joyce Hoyt

Charleen Joyce Hoyt (1948-2024)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charleen “Char” Hoyt, aged 75, on May 17, 2024. Char passed away in the Chesapeake Regional hospital after battling several significant health issues.

Born on September 7, 1948, Char was the daughter of the late Archie Poyner and Madie Belle Potter. She grew up and lived most of her life in the Hampton Roads area.

Char valued helping people. She spent time volunteering in her children’s school when they were young. She also volunteered with the Plaza Volunteer Rescue Squad in Virginia Beach for several years before transitioning into a full time career as a Telecommunicator in the City of Norfolk’s Emergency Communications (911) center. She retired several years ago and spent time crocheting, reading, doing puzzles, and watching TV. She was outgoing and loved talking with people.

Char is survived by her two children, Jerry and Eric. She also had one other child, Jack, who is deceased.

Information about a memorial service will be shared online. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Click here to make a memorial donation in Char's name https://www.tmcfunding.com/funds/in-loving-memory-of-charleen-j-hoyt/10268/

Eric and Jerry, so sorry for the loss of your mother. I know there are no words that can ease the pain. I worked with Char for many years before she retired from the 911 center. She always kept me laughing and was a character of many trades. I enjoyed working with her. Wishing you guys all the peace and comfort possible. She was truly a sweet person. Her light is shining bright. Ralfella Folston

Jerry & Eric. Your mom, my friend, was an amazing woman and I know she loved you with all her heart & soul. I enjoyed working with her at the 911 center many years ago and I'm glad she was able to retire, relax and spend quality time with you. She will forever be our hearts and I know we will see her again! I'm always here for you if you ever want to talk or just get together. Take care of yourselves and God bless! Your friend, Todd
