Obituary For Charles David Frost
Charles David Frost passed away peacefully on Saturday 15 March in the presence of his beloved wife Marie Cornelia and their son Charles Andrew. Charles was born in Liverpool, England to an American father and an English mother, and always treasured his connections with the city and its people He was known to wear many hats. He was Major Frost USAF, PA Frost Ortho, Professor Frost EVMS, Doctor Frost DHS, and simply as Charles who willingly volunteered for the Medical Reserve Corps, ICRB of Virginia Beach and the VBSPCA, assisting with fostering hundreds of kittens over the years.
Charles and Cornelia met in 1974 and their first date was at the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool. They became engaged in December 1974 and married the following September in Fort Walton Beach FL where Charles was preparing to join the USAF. He entered the service as an Airman and retired in 1998 as a Major as a result of hard work and his passion for further education. During those years he served in Desert Storm, and in Croatia where he was directly involved in saving the lives of those injured in combat. He received, among other distinctions, the Meritorious Service Medal for his services to the Orthopedic Dept. USAF Lakenheath UK.
In April 1989 the couple welcomed their son Charles Andrew through the gift of adoption while stationed in Mississippi. That was just one of many assignments in Charles' 23 year career, which involved 26 moves in total.
In 2001 Virginia Beach became home. After a short time in private practice Charles missed the military and so began working at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center. In 2013 he completed his Doctorate in Health Sciences and spent the next five years teaching at EVMS. He found great satisfaction in passing on his knowledge to the next generation of PA's.
He finally retired during the first October of COVID but by December was volunteering with the MRC, giving vaccinations and performing school physicals. His work with them continued up until the start of his illness.
Charles and Cornelia enjoyed cruising, wine tasting trips, ballroom dancing, concerts and spending time with family and friends. Besides his wife and son he leaves his mother-in-law and father-in-law Mary and John, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Julia and Andy, favorite niece and nephew Calum and Lydia (all UK), legions of cousins and their families, and many caring friends, too numerous to count. He also leaves Smokie the cat who spent hours and hours sitting on his lap, and generally being a comfort during these last months.
Many thanks to everyone who has been involved in Charles' care and especially to the many PA's we met along the way who began as his students and finally became his carers. Special thanks to friends Linda and Charles, Sally and Jimmy, Dorianne and Dan, Kerri, Susan, Sally and D'Arcy. Cornelia and Andrew are grateful for all the messages of support and caring from ALL our friends and family both here and in the UK.
There will be no service by his request, but an event to celebrate his life will be held in the coming months. If you would care to make a donation in his memory he would have wanted it to go to the VBSPCA, Holland Road, Virginia Beach.
In the past few days the same phrase has been used over and over to describe Charles. ‘He was a wonderful man’. He certainly was, and we will miss him forever.
