Obituary For Charles David Thrailkill, Jr.

Charles “David” Thrailkill (82) passed away peacefully in his home on February 16, 2024, with family lovingly by his side.

David is survived and missed by his wife of 61 years Virginia “Ginny” Lohman Thrailkill, and his three daughters Debra Hall (Kevin), Leslie Alexander, and Caren Dikun (John). Forever remembered and cherished by his eight grandchildren; Cassandra (Jason), Mandy (Todd), Jason, Zackary David (Melissa), Rachel (Cash), Abigail (Ben), Allison and John, and his eleven great-grandchildren; Hannah, Emma, Bailey, Grayson, Sawyer, Dawson, Karley, Dutton, Colt, Jeriah and Brooklyn.

Born January 11, 1942 in at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Virginia, David was the son of late Esther and Charles D. Thrailkill, Sr. Growing up in a military family, David and his two younger siblings Richard ("Dick") and Linda moved quite often during their childhood but they always called Virginia home.

David attended Shepherd College where he met his wife in 1961. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and for a short-time worked as a “repo man” where he met his best friend (Gary Miller). He worked for several national retail companies and later became a business owner and private investigator. After retirement, he earned his certification to be a personal trainer.

David was always the life of the party with a keen sense of humor. He never met a stranger. David loved dogs, working out, playing handball, chocolate, the beach, the family farm, mowing the lawn, making lists, and correcting his children's and grandchildren's grammar, but most of all he loved his family. David, dad, Papa T will be forever loved and missed.

Uncle Dave was one of the good ones. He and Aunt Ginny would often include me in their vacations to Ocean City they are some of my best childhood memories. And then welcomed my children to the beach. He was always smiling and saying something funny to make everyone around him happy. He enjoyed life and was a strong family man. I will always love and miss him. Rest in peace Uncle Dave

Papa T, as us kids called him helped shape my active life. I met him one summer when Zack asked if I wanted to begin working out. Papa T showed us the basics of staying healthy and getting strong, while always taking a chance to show us up with how strong he was. That summer would pass but his and his family's kindness would not. Rest well Papa T.

He was the greatest grandfather I could have asked for in my life. He was more like a father to me and an amazing role model that shaped me into who I am today. You will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Your spirit, wisdom, and zest for life lives in all those that you touched. I love you Papa-T! Rest easy -your biggest fan and future Papa-T Jr. Zackary David Todaro

I'm so sorry on the loss of Mr. Thrailkill/Papa T. He was a one of a kind and I always was amazed when I'd see him jogging down the street! I would tell Caren there was a Papa T sighting, to which she would say she gets Papa T sightings regularly reported to her. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
