Obituary For Charles Henry Rupe
Virginia Beach, VA - It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Charles Henry Rupe, who departed this life on April 25, 2026, at the age of 91. Charles was born on December 29, 1934, in Boston, Indiana, and he passed away peacefully in Virginia Beach, VA.
Charles dedicated his life to serving his country as a proud member of the United States Navy. He reached the military rank of Commander in the Navy and served on the USS Patriot and USS Hornet. He retired in 1991 and entered civilian employment and worked for various government contractors and retired again in 1996. His commitment to excellence and leadership was evident throughout his years in service.
A man of intellect and determination, Charles pursued higher education and earned a Master's Degree, which further exemplified his dedication to personal growth and learning.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Clarence and Mary Rupe, whose principles and values guided him throughout his life; and his sister, sisters Jane Love.
Charles leaves behind his devoted wife, Mary T. Bates Rupe, who has been by his side for over 40 years, they were married in approximately 2004; and his loving children, son, Carl Rupe (Dr. Carol Rupe), their children Christopher Rupe and Katie Rupe; his son, Brian Rupe, his son Matthew Rupe (Jessica), two great grandchildren Savannah and Ollie Rupe; his daughter, Bridget Hoyt (Greg), two great grandchildren Caroline and Elaine Hoyt; and his daughter, Tamara Rupe Severance, her two children, K. Patrick Severance (Rylan), great grandchildren, Calvin and Emerson “Emi”, Valerie Severance (engaged to Joe Escamilla); his sister, Marilyn Rose; several nieces and nephews; along with cherished family members and friends who will forever hold him dear in their hearts. He was married to Patsy Jeannine Smith 1956 and divorced 1984.
