Obituary For Clifton L. Doxey, Jr.

Virginia Beach

Clifton L. Doxey, Jr., of Virginia Beach, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2013 after a short illness. He was born to the late Clif and Mary Doxey and was also predeceased by his sister, Joann McCarty. Cliff is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betsy Bush Doxey; sons, John Paul (Dawn) and Fowler; brother, David (Pat); and sister-in-law, Janey Bush. Also left to cherish his memory are many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, to whom he was know as "Hunkle Dude", and his granddogs, Foster and Oskar.

Cliff retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard , Radcon Division, after 37 years. He was a deacon at Thalia Lynn Baptist Church, and recently was made Deacon Emeritus. Cliff was previously a member of the Virginia Beach Jaycee's, and a volunteer with Operation Smile, where he went on two missions with his wife Betsy to the Philippines. He also assisted Betsy with many Womens Club functions, that earned him the nickname "Saint Cliff".

Services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Saturday September 28, 2013 at Thaila Lynn Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Operation Smile or Thaila Lynn Baptist Church.

    I have such wonderful memories of Uncle Dude. I was truly blessed with a great family, who loved to spend time together. There was always laughter and good times. I will cherish those days,always!!

    Betsy my prayers are with you and Cliffs family. I am so very sorry for your lost and the lost for everyone who knew Cliff. You probably don't remember me but I worked with Cliff at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in the Radiological Control Office for many years. He was one of the kindess and most generous men I have ever known. He was a friend to many. I am sure he will be truly missed by all. God Bless you and all of the Doxey family.
