Obituary For Daniel Ray Hines

In Loving Memory of Daniel Ray Hines

Also known as: Dad, Poppi, Danny, Uncle Danny, and Mr. Handsome
Born: December 6, 1951 in Virginia Beach, VA
Passed: July 10, 2025 — at home in Virginia Beach, VA

Daniel Ray Hines, lovingly known by many names — Dad, Poppi, Danny, Uncle Dan, and most proudly, Mr. Handsome — passed away peacefully at home on July 10, 2025, surrounded by his wife and daughter.

Dan was born in Virginia Beach, VA, a place that remained the heart of his life even after spending some time on the west coast. His vibrant spirit, unmatched sense of humor, and deep love for his family and music left an unforgettable mark on everyone who knew him.

He is survived by the loves of his life — his devoted wife, Suzanne Hines, and his daughters: Molly Hines, Michele Osborn, and Laura Daigle (Neil). He was the proud grandfather of Anthony DeLeon, Brayden Osborn (Katie), Carleigh Osborn, Layla Daigle, and Lucy Daigle, and a joyful great-grandfather to Oaklen Osborn.

Dan also leaves behind his cherished siblings: Eunice Culbertson (Steve), John Hines, Sr. (Susan), Connie Cahoon (Roger) and countless nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Garland, Sr. and Lillie Hines and brothers Garland Hines, Jr. (Leslie) and James “Jimmy” Hines, and he carried their memories with him always.

Music was the soundtrack of Dan’s life. He played in multiple bands over the years, most notably the Hines Brothers Band. He also shared his gift as a worship leader at The Carpenter’s House International, using his voice and spirit to inspire faith and connection to God.

Professionally, Dan wore many hats — from his early days at American Airlines, to owning and operating several businesses, and most recently, working with pride at Movement Mortgage. Whatever role he filled, Dan brought humor, heart, and hustle.

A celebration of Dan’s life will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Location is at Wave Church - SEABOARD Campus 2655 Seaboard Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23456. Flowers can be sent on Friday to the location. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend, share stories, and honor the joy he brought into this world.

The family asks that you honor Dan by turning up your favorite song, singing it loud, and dancing like no one’s watching — just as he would have wanted.

I woke up this morning in a great mood but after learning of my dog walking friends passing it is gone. Dan an I met at the Princess Anne Athletic Complex where we would always chat when we saw each other along with Pat we named ourselves the "Old Guys Dog Walking Club" . Dan was a great guy and usually our com versatile s would end with a phone call from his wife telling him to get home for dinner. I would always say what are WE having? He would ask and then describe it as it was a 5 star meal. It was evident he loved his wife and her cooking. We talked about him and his brothers and his bands. Family was always a pont of discussion I loved talking with Dan he was a great guy and has been solely missed. Sorry I am so late but I turn 65 in September and it is things like this that remind me of my own mortality. I know Dan would tell you that he has caught me sitting in my car at the PAAC SCREAMING songs at t he top of my lungs so I will continue to do so in honor of my friend Dan. Again very sorry for your loss hhe was one of the good guys.

Rest in peace, dear Dan. Daniel-son was more than a mentor; he was like a second father to me. His daughter, Molly, and I were inseparable, truly "connected at the hip," sharing countless cherished moments. From attending church every Sunday and enjoying live plays, to memorable trips to Great Wolf Lodge and spending Christmases at the Founders Inn, Dan's presence made every experience special. As I grew older, Dan was an outstanding role model, always guiding by example. I'll forever remember his joyful spirit, especially his constant singing—in the car, at home, everywhere you could imagine. Dan and the entire Hines family imparted invaluable lessons and life virtues that I will carry with me always. Their wisdom and kindness have profoundly shaped who I am today.

I worked with Dan "the man" at American Airlines in Norfolk. He made working there always fun, even if we were working with crazy weather, a crazy schedule or with crazy people! The world has lost a musical light, but Heaven has gained a new Angel who will keep everyone dancing even after the music stops. God bless and Godspeed to the Hines family. Julie 🙏♥️
