Obituary For David Allen Powell

David Allen Powell, born on March 18, 1979, in Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on August 4, 2025, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was 46 years old.

David dedicated his professional life to to technology in the military operations for over 15 years. He later moved to pre-sales roles in the technology sector, where he applied his skills and expertise throughout his career. His colleagues appreciated his dedication and contributions to the industry.

He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Barbara and Richard Powell. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Maggie Powell, along with a circle of friends and colleagues who mourn his passing.

In 2003, Dave enlisted in the Marine Corps and served two combat tours in Iraq. He was honorably discharged in 2007. From 2007 until 2022, he worked as a contractor or government employee in various roles in the technology field, supporting multiple branches of military special forces. He worked with JSOC at Fort Bragg, NC, and with several groups in Virginia Beach, VA. Dave dedicated his life to making a difference. While working closely with military teams in Virginia Beach, he was incredibly proud of the work he and his team accomplished. As he often said, he just wanted to “make a f***ing difference,” and believed everyone else should too. A desk plaque made for him at the time simply read “MAFD,” which he passed on to his successor when he transitioned to the private sector. Around 2022, Dave left government work and became a pre-sales representative for SAPNS2, where he worked until his passing.

He is also survived by his two children, Aiden (13) and Addie (10), and their loyal and goofy dog, Ranger.

David will be remembered for his commitment to his work and his cherished relationships with those he held dear.

The family is planning a gathering to remember and honor Dave at their home on Saturday, August 23. A memorial will be held at Munden Point Park located at 2001 Pefley Ln Virginia Beach, VA 23457 Pavilion #2 on August 23, 2025 at 3:00pm.

Dave was a member of an incredibly small group of professionals; he had a unique blend of competence and personality anchored by a calm that endured each and every storm with grace and confidence. You knew if Dave said his team could handle it; it was handled. The results would exceed expectations and all credit would be given to the others. It is difficult to express my level of respect. My deepest condolences to your family and loved ones, Dave. Rest in power, Marine. You will not be forgotten. And you absolutely made a $*#)$(# difference. Erik Hart, Atlanta GA

Dave was an incredible and highly valued teammate. He was always willing to step in and help, no matter how busy things got. His calm nature made such a difference in our fast-paced environment, and I always admired the way he carried himself. He will be deeply missed and thought of often. My heart goes out to Maggie, Aiden and Addie - I hope they can feel how loved and appreciated he was by everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him.

My condolences to his family. I feel much sympathy for his wife and especially his children. It's awful losing a parent so young. Although I didn't work directly with Dave, I heard his name many times (nothing negative) at SAP NS2. I pray that he rests in peace.

We mourn Dave Powell, who passed away unexpectedly at a very young age. He was a bright family focused gentleman. Our professional exchanges were focused; while still considering his big "why" first, why he worked, why lived and why he customized his schedule to accommodate his family needs first. When I heard of his surprised passing, the first thing that came to my mind was his family. He was a family man first and foremost, he is survived by his loving wife Maggie, and their wonderful children son Aiden and daughter Addie. I should say that I never met his family, but I feel I do know them in the great way Dave spoke of them. He will live in hearts and minds forever. He kept the military traits in his personal and professional life. He was always prompt and responsive to our projects' needs. He was careful not to miss his children's school and sports events. The last time I saw him at a meeting; he was rushing back home, but in doing so he forgot his sweater. We were sitting next to each other while talking about the upcoming children's event, and I was about to call him to tell him about the sweater left behind as he opened the door. We smiled at each other; he took his sweater and rushed out. We both understood, his priority was to get back home to his family, but I never expected that to be our last sighting. I will miss my colleague and most importantly my wonderful friend. My heart breaks for his beloved family; my condolences.

Dave was one of the hardest-working individuals that I had the pleasure of working with. He loved his family, barbequing, and learning new concepts. He always had time to help and was always kind. Dave left a lasting impression on me, and I believe all who were ever graced with his time and kindness. I offer my sincerest condolences to the family, and he is always in my thoughts. Rick Smith

I am deeply saddened by Dave's passing. He was not only incredibly knowledgeable but also had a remarkable can-do spirit, always willing to help and support others. I personally benefited from his guidance many times. He touched so many lives, including mine, and I hope Aiden and Addie know how proud he was of you both and how much he will be missed.
