Obituary For David Leslie Foreman

On January 6, 2024, David Leslie Foreman passed away after a long illness. Born in 1961 to Betty Jean and Leslie Foreman, he grew up in Virginia Beach, VA, and graduated from Kempsville High School. He is predeceased by his parents, and sister, Kathleen Hassen (Charlie). David is survived by his son Devin Foreman (Olivia), daughter Jena Foreman, step-son Garrett Hart (Ashley), four grandchildren, a sister, Norma Andes (Bob), and his former wife, Marna Wilson.

David was smart, funny and talented. He enjoyed designing and creating all sorts of artistic and useful items. He was often able to come up with unique and clever solutions to problems, and could find a way to “Macgyver” himself out of (almost) any situation. As a young teen, he built a skateboarding ramp in the back yard with his friends, and became skilled enough to become a member of a competitive skateboarding team. He loved surfing, and would go out in any weather or before a storm, in order to catch a good wave.

David expressed his creative side as an artist, mostly painting in acrylics, in a modern folk art style. He sold his work privately and sometimes in local galleries. He was a musician/singer/songwriter and a founding member of the “Sacred Plowboys” which played locally. He played acoustic and electric guitar, along with other instruments.

David was also a skilled automotive diagnostic technician, and seemed to have a sixth sense for figuring out the most tricky and odd vehicle problems. He often sounded like an encyclopedia of information on certain makes and models, and their specific issues. He was the guy who could listen to that funny noise your car is making, and tell you what is causing the sound. Or stick with it until he figured out the problem!

His favorite place was always the beach, either surfing, walking along the shore, or sitting and looking out over the water. The ocean was his muse, and brought him peace. In our mind’s eye, we see him now. He is laying down his keys, Volcom t-shirt, and Vans sneakers on a beach towel. And while composing a song in his head, he is heading out through the whitewater with his surfboard, to catch that last, big, epic wave!

Dave, I miss our telephone conversations and our incredible friendship. I have had many health problems since you left this earth and at least twice I thought I would be joining you. Norma gave me a vial of your ashes with a skateboard attached both on my keyring. Love you my friend. Big Lew
