Obituary For Dawn Marie (Harris) McDaniel

Norfolk, VA - Dawn Marie (Harris) McDaniel, a resident of Norfolk, Virginia, age 64, passed away peacefully in her Norfolk home on March 31, 2026, surrounded by the two people she loved most—her son, Nathan A. McDaniel, and her daughter, Sarah L. McDaniel, both of Norfolk.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donna Louise Colbert Barcroft and Paul Denzil (Danny) Harris, III.

Dawn is also survived by her brother, Richard G. Harris of Alabama. Her other siblings she leaves behind are: Brian Barcroft of Tennessee; Troy Harris (Angel) of North Carolina; Paul Harris IV (Sara) of Virginia Beach; Mandy Harris of Virginia Beach, Angela Rowland (Ron) of Chesapeake, and Kathleen Farias (Barry) of Virginia Beach; an uncle, David T Harris (Susan), and an aunt, Paula D Harris (Ted) both of Norfolk, along with many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A lifelong resident of Norfolk, Dawn attended Norview High School. She had a deep love for sports, especially softball, which she played from her teenage years well into adulthood on both women’s and co-ed teams. She was known as an exceptional first baseman and pitcher, with a powerful bat and competitive spirit to match.

Dawn had a special affection for animals, particularly German Shepherd dogs, which she had throughout much of her life. She also loved cats and many other animals.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dawn dedicated herself to serving others as a medical transport driver for individuals with disabilities. Prior to that, she worked as a bus driver for the Norfolk Public School System. Earlier in her career, she was a courier for The Management Company of Virginia and Medaphys Physician Services, primarily serving radiology practices throughout the Tidewater area.
