  I met Don when I went to work for Chief Dew at FAGLANT in the late 70â??s. I was so green then! Don & Chief Dew had some great Navy tales and got good-natured chuckles at my misunderstanding of their Navy lingo but they patiently explained it all to me. Don kept work interesting and fun.

  Thank you all for the kind words and memories of my grandfather. He is missed beyond words. I'm glad others got to experience his humor, it was the best. There'll never be another like him. If any of you have any pictures from when you served/worked together, we would love to have them!

  My condolences to the family. Don and I were stationed together at the old FAGLANT, then NAVMASSO. We also worked a short time together at CACI after DPC Fegley retired from the U. S. Navy. Don was one of the hardest working guys I knew. He was like an old hound dog with a bone when he got on a problem; he did not quit until he had the problem fixed and I mean to tell you that I've seen him work all day and all night on a problem - he never stopped to sleep until the problem was fixed. He also had the esteemed nickname of "Mr. FIANA." FIANA was a file analyzer program that Don taught, and I dare say that no one knew more about that program and how to make it work than Don did. He knew how to make it produce output in a way that it was not designed to do, but he could do it. RIP Chief.

  Don was a great mentor, jokester, but most of all, a great friend of mine; we kept in touch for many years after we worked together at NAVMASSO/SPAWAR.
  I received Sandyâ??s call this morning to give me the news; she always called me Julio so it was nice to hear her voice again. Sandy, my family and I join you and the rest of your family in this time of grievance; as I mentioned on the phone, do not hesitate to reach out if you need anything.

  I first met Don when I was a 3rd Class Data Processing Tech on the USS Piedmont in 1979 and worked with and knew him for many years after. He was a mentor to me then, and I always enjoyed working with him. I haven't seen him in a number of years now, but I have thought of him many times since.
  My sincere condolences to his family. He will be greatly missed by many. Rest In Peace Don

  I knew Don since 1985. He was a great guy to work with I have so many great memories of he and I going to ships for assists. I am sure he will be missed by many of his former coworkers and friends as well as family.

  I worked with Don many, many years. A character indeed, but with great knowledge of the task at hand. He was a good friend and a mentor.
  My condolences to his family, and a prayer that he rests easy. He should tell some of his crazy jokes to the angels. GOD BLESS.

  I met Don in 1985 when we worked together at SPAWAR. He was already a legend in the DP community. We worked together on numerous ships and I remember watching the Challenger disaster with him while we were onboard the Nimitz. Don was very methodical and thorough in his work - a true professional. If he didnâ??t know the answer to a question, he would find someone who did. He was also a great guy. He had a terrific sense of humor and was a pleasure to be around. He will be sorely missed. RIP, Don.
