DOROTHY B. WALTERS

Dorothy B. Walters passed away peacefully at 92 years of age on the morning of January 24, 2025. She was a resident of Williamsburg Post Acute & Rehabilitation in Williamsburg, Virginia for the past several years. Her previous residences were in the Hampton / Newports News, Virginia areas as well as Crawfordsville, Indiana. Dorothy was born on April 11, 1932 in Tarboro, Edgecombe County, North Carolina to Mattie K. Barnes and Willie Earl Barnes. She was preceded in passing by her parents and daughter Sharon S. Woolard, and son Gregory E. Strickland. Her surviving family members include her brother W.E. “Billy" Barnes of Tarboro, North Carolina, daughter Cathy Clayton, Hampton, Va., son John W. Strickland (Judy), Crawfordsville, Indiana, and grandchildren Jay Strickland, Jeff Strickland, Casie Conner, Chase Conner, Ashley DeKerlegand, Gregory “Ace” Strickland, Meredith Phillips, and Elizabeth Strickland, Randy Woolard (son in-law), along with 16 great grandchildren.

Dorothy grew up on a farm in the Tarboro, North Carolina area, married at 19 and spent most of her life in the Virginia peninsula area around her four children. She worked as a hostess / server in the restaurant business and later as a care giver to the elderly. Known affectionately by her grandchildren as “Grandma Dot”, Dorothy was an extremely independent, unpredictable and in many cases fun-loving individual who left us with some fond memories. She will most certainly be missed ...but most definitely not be forgotten.
