Obituary For Douglas G. Lebert, Jr.
Douglas G. Lebert, Jr. May 2, 1957, - July 23, 2025
Douglas G. Lebert, Jr of Chesapeake, VA passed away on July 23, 2025, at the age of 68 after a gallant fight with cancer. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Doug lived a life marked by service, strength, and an unwavering sense of duty to his community and country.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas G. Lebert, Sr. and Joan Trimback Lebert. Doug is survived by seven siblings - John, Lehni, David, Tina, Debra, Carole, and Joan - his beloved dog, Ranger, and a vast circle of cousins and friends spanning the globe.
Doug was deeply aware of his many gifts and talents, and he sought to share those gifts with others. He followed in his father’s footsteps of service. In his youth he served over a decade at Plaza Volunteer Fire and Rescue. He later joined the United States Navy, contributing to the construction of the USS Carl Vinson’s nuclear reactor and being airlifted onto a carrier during the first Gulf War, a period that remained a source of pride throughout his life.
After returning from military service, Doug sought to experience the country he served becoming an over-the-road, long-distance semi-truck driver. An accident while off-loading his rig left him disabled, but undeterred. Doug pursued further careers in medical equipment repair and computer network systems.
Doug had a lifelong love of baseball as a player and a devoted Yankees fan. He travelled to California to be with his favorite uncle, moved to Texas for love. He became very ill and moved to Virginia to be cared for by his sister, Carole Richardson. They enjoyed going to Yankee games and following the team on television.
Doug had a romantic heart underneath a sometimes gruff exterior. He never met a stranger and will be remembered for his gregariousness and confidence. He was a fighter and an eternal optimist. He leaves behind a legacy of service, courage and grit.
In accordance with his wishes, no services are planned. Douglas will have a burial at sea. Simply Cremation is assisting the family. Those wishing to share memories or express condolences are encouraged to do so at SimplyCremationOnline.com.
