Douglas Joseph Wright, a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather and friend passed away on March 25, 2026, in Virginia Beach, VA, at the age of 69. Born on July 27, 1956, in Middlesex, England, Douglas led a life marked by hard work.

Douglas spent a significant part of his career as a well-driller and a "Doug of all trades," earning the nickname for his remarkable ability to adapt and excel in a variety of roles. My father exemplified the values of carpentry and commitment was evident in every task he undertook which satisfied all who trusted them with their homes. If you were lucky enough to have a beautiful stair rail, cabinetry or furniture crafted by him I hope you cherish it. Outside of work, he loved fishing with Derrick James and working on his boat. He treasured a 1973 Ford “Scooby Doo” Van he was determined to fix up or not. My father was an avid blue bird watcher, and his passion showed with the videos sent from the camera birdhouse in the back yard every time babies were born.

Douglas is preceded in death by his loving parents, Gwendolyn Dorothy Foster Wright and Howard Wright, his brother Stephen Wright, and his beloved dog daughters Alley & Skittles who instilled in him the virtues of resilience, patience and integrity. He is survived by his cherished daughter, Melissa Wright, grandson Trey Wright, and granddaughter Brooklyn “Queshie” who were the light of his life. Other family survivors are his brother Robert Wright, niece Corrine, nephews Jason and Justin Wright, and his father’s wife Arlene Wright. Doug had a wide circle of loving friends. A special thanks are extended to Marilyn, Jim, Marcy, and Peter for their devoted care in the months leading up to his passing.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life and legacy Saturday April 25, 2026, from 1pm-4pm to honor, celebrate, and reflect on the lasting memories Douglas Joesph Wright leaves behind.
