Obituary For Earl Blake Smith

Ninety years tell the story of a life built through perseverance, dedication, and love for family. Earl Blake Smith's story was one of honest work and enduring commitment to those he held dear.

Earl passed away peacefully at his Virginia Beach home on July 25, 2026. Born in South Carolina on November 29, 1935, he did service in the U.S.Navy from 1952 to 1972. Following his service in the U.S. Navy he spent his career working at the Norfolk Ford plant and then as an automotive mechanic, solving problems with his hands and earning the respect of those who knew they could count on him.

His life's greatest accomplishment, however, wasn't found in a workshop—it was the family he built alongside his beloved wife, Loretta Free Smith. Together they shared many years of marriage, creating a lifetime of memories. He is also survived by his daughters, Deborah Smith, Denise Smith, Donna Smith, Diahann Smith, and stepdaughter Donna A. DeSmet, and many grandchildren who will forever remember his steady presence, wisdom, and unconditional love.

The son of John Smith and Annie Rhodes, Earl belonged to a generation that believed actions spoke louder than words. He lived with integrity, worked without complaint, and loved his family wholeheartedly.

His absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, but his example of quiet strength and unwavering devotion will continue to guide those who loved him.

Celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Simply Cremation is assisting the family with arrangements.
