Obituary For Edward John Moyer

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Edward John Moyer, 65, of Virginia Beach, VA, on June 2, 2025. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the beloved son of Charles and Doris Moyer.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Janet Leigh Moyer, and their sons: Jeffrey O’Brian Moyer and his wife, Madalyn, along with his grandson, Clay Edward, of Montgomery, OH; Michael John Moyer of Virginia Beach, VA; and Corey Edward Moyer of Shawnee, KS. Also surviving are his devoted mother, Doris Marie Moyer, and his brothers: Chuck Moyer Jr. (Susan), Rick Moyer (Liz), and David Moyer (Linda). He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Norman Moyer Sr.

Ed graduated from Princess Anne High School, Class of 1977, and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Old Dominion University in 1981. A passionate golfer, he was a founding member of Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate in Overland Park, KS, and for the past six years, he and Janet were members of Princess Anne Country Club in Virginia Beach. In 2024 alone, Ed proudly completed 140 rounds of golf. Some rounds were great—and on those days, “he was a better man, husband, and father.” Even on tough rounds, the joy of the game remained, because he was playing with family and lifelong friends.

Ed built a distinguished 40-year career with American Multi-Cinema (AMC), beginning in 1979 as a part-time manager at Circle 4 in Norfolk, VA. He was named General Manager of the Year in 1986 while leading the Lynnhaven 8 theatre in Virginia Beach. His career took him and his family to Florida, Kansas, New Jersey, and ultimately back to Kansas, as he assumed greater leadership roles. In August 2019, Ed retired as Senior Vice President of Operations, and in 2020, he was honored with AMC’s Legend Award in recognition of his outstanding dedication and service.

Ed was a bright, shining light—full of life, love, wisdom, and laughter. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were touched by his kind and generous spirit. His strength leaves an enduring imprint on his family, his friends, and the incredible medical team who cared for him. To his sons, he is their hero, coach, caddie, and compass to their true north. To his grandson, Clay Edward, PopPop will smile and walk beside you always. To his wife, Janet, he was, is, and will forever be “STB”—Simply the Best.

We thank God for bringing two co-workers together at The Water Flume in 1979. They began as friends, where Ed listened more and talked less. They ended that summer dancing to “Last Dance” at Peabody’s and began a lifetime of love. Their heavenly reunion will surely be filled with endless joy.

A celebration of life for Ed will be held on Saturday, June 28th at 11:00 a.m. at the Princess Anne Country Club, 3800 Pacific Avenue, Virginia Beach, VA, with a reception to follow. Ed requested that friends and family wear golf attire or their summer’s best.

In lieu of flowers, Ed asked that Diana Taper, Oncology PharmD at AdventHealth Cancer Institute, name a research foundation that brings hope to those fighting cancer. Diana has been by the family’s side since Ed’s 2019 pancreatic cancer diagnosis, offering compassionate care and guidance to help make informed decisions. We are grateful to now call her a friend. In Ed’s honor, please consider donating to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN), a national organization dedicated to groundbreaking research, supporting patients, and advocating for earlier detection and better outcomes by clicking HERE.

Ed was not only a wonderful son, brother, uncle, cousin, husband, father and grandfather, he was also the best son- and brother-in-law anyone could ever have. He and his family opened their hearts to all of the "Brinkleys" and I thank God for the blessings we all received because of Ed's love for Janet.

Oh my goodness, what a wonderful human being Ed Moyer was. He brought positivity and goodness to whatever he was involved in at AMC. I met Ed in the very early 80's, right as I was starting my career at AMC. We worked together at a little theatre called Coliseum 4, and he gave me my first manager position at AMC, because he saw something in me, that he knew I could do it. Throughout the years as we both grew with the company (as well as our families), we always made time to catch up about work, but also our families, whenever we saw each other. He will be missed by so many, not just in Hampton Roads, but everywhere around the country, for all the people's lives he touched, as they crossed paths through the movie theatre world.

To Ed's Family, I had the privilege of working with Ed at AMC. I found him to be kind, patient and always engaged and thoughtful. I had hoped he was going to be the one who beat this horrible disease. I know everyone has wonderful memories of Ed as do I. Wishing you all peace and comfort in these difficult times. Lisa Morris

To the Moyer family I am saddened by the news of Eddies passing. I've known Eddie since the early 70's and was a regular at the Moyer household in those years. My memory of Eddie is he had an infectious smile and quick wit, which I'm sure he got from his Dad. His memory will always be around and my heartfelt condolences to his wife and family.

Dearest Mike, Janet, Corey, Jeff, and family... There are no words to express the sorrow for this time. Ed was an incredible man, as evidenced by the fact that he raised three more incredible men - one of them being my best friend. I'm so thankful for his love, guidance, and influence that so clearly shaped each of you, and now Ed's reach has spread even further than you know, because my life is better just having had the Moyer family be part of it. I am so sorry for this devastating loss. I wish you comfort and peace in the days to come, and please know that your friends are holding you in our hearts.

Janet and the boys. I'm so very sorry. Eddie and I met when he was twelve and I was eleven. I consider him one of my best lifelong friends. He was like a big brother to me.

I have the privilege of being the cousin of Chuckie, Richie, Eddie, and David. I have a heart full of memories with Eddie. When he was young he became my little "brother" when he lived with me and my family for a period of time. Eddie had Integrity, dedication, great smile, family man, kind, humorous, and was spoiled. Before Eddies passing, I wrote him a book of our memories together 🌟. Eddie will never be far as memories of him will always be in my heart. My sincere sympathy to the family and Janet Love Melanie
