  Elizabeth "Liz" Joan Bashwinger, 59, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2022, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, surrounded by the love of her family after a courageous battle with advanced cancer. Born on September 28, 1962, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Liz was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Bashwinger. A true free spirit, Liz lived life by her own rules. She was funny, spirited, independent, and carried a rebel charm that made her unforgettable to those who knew and loved her. Liz had a deep love for music and found comfort and expression through writing poetry. She had a sharp wit, a generous heart, and a way of bringing laughter into even the hardest moments. In her final weeks, she came to Virginia Beach to be surrounded by family, where she was able to laugh, reminisce, and enjoy precious time with those she loved most. She is survived by her partner, Jack McKernan of Philadelphia; her siblings, William Bashwinger, Kathryn Bashwinger (David Mariano), Jeneen McHugh, Valerie McNichols (Peter), Nicole Straka (Phillip), and Joseph Bashwinger; her beloved Godmother, Kathryn Dous; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who will forever cherish her memory. Though her absence leaves an immeasurable void, Liz's laughter, strength, and fiercely unique spirit will live on in the stories, music, and memories shared by all who loved her. Services were held privately by the family.
