Virginia Beach, VA - Elizabeth Joan (Lewis) Lovering, born on January 24, 1926, in Middletown, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at the age of 100.

Elizabeth was raised in Rhode Island, where she grew deep roots, established cherished traditions, and nurtured a love of the sea. In Newport, Rhode Island, she met her true love, John L. Lovering, Sr. They married in 1949, embarking on a journey of love and companionship that spanned over six decades. Their journey took them to Boston, Massachusetts, and later, in 1971, to their beloved Cape Cod, which had long been their favorite vacation destination. In 2000, Elizabeth and John moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia, to be near their son’s family and enjoy the company of their young grandchildren.

During her life, Elizabeth worked for Kodak (she worked with Ansel Adams for a time) and later for the United States Postal Service, where her creativity and hard work were an inspiration to many. Betty’s deep love of family and friends shone through to all who were graced by her light. She loved walking (especially along the water), gardening, photography, cooking, quilting, and beautiful flowers.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her loving parents, her devoted husband of 64 years, John L. Lovering, Sr., and her beloved son, John L. Lovering Jr.

She is survived by her grandsons, John L. "Ian" Lovering III and Walter Lovering, daughter-in-law Barbara Lovering, great-grandsons Oliver Lovering and Austin Lovering, and many other family members and friends who will dearly miss her steadfast presence and kind spirit.
