Obituary For Elsie Mosquera

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Elsie Mirles Mosquera, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt, and woman of extraordinary faith. Elsie passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family and friends on December 30, 2024 at the age of 86 years old.

Born in Puerto Rico, Elsie’s life was defined by her resilience, faith, and deep devotion to her family. As a young woman, she moved to New York City, where she completed her schooling and began building a beautiful life. Elsie met the love of her life, Vicente Mosquera, and the two were married. Their honeymoon was a joyful journey around the island, creating treasured memories.

The couple eventually settled in New Jersey, where Elsie was a dedicated stay-at-home mother and entrepreneur, running a hair salon from her home to help support the family. Elsie returned to school to pursue her passion for caregiving, earning her credentials as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Her commitment to self-improvement and her compassionate spirit inspired all who knew her.

When the family moved to Virginia in 1992, Elsie helped fulfill her husband's dream of owning a family restaurant, Mediterraneo Ristorante, in Grafton. Her warmth and hospitality left a lasting impression on everyone who visited. She returned to her passion in nursing, as a hospital nurse and then as a school nurse, dedicating her care and compassion to children in the community.

Elsie was a devoted member of her church and found strength in her unwavering faith. Her love for God and family was the foundation of her life and the legacy she leaves behind. Elsie was an accomplished gardener and she often enjoyed spending time with her Lord in her flower and vegetable gardens.

She is survived by her loving family, including her husband, Vinny of 59 years, her children Lizette and Vinnie (Jennifer), grandchildren, Tiana (Dean), Frankie, Tessa, Jackson, Isabella, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved deeply.

Her deep affection for her furry companions was evident throughout her life. She leaves behind her beloved dogs, who brought her immense joy and comfort.

In her final days, Elsie’s room was filled with love, scripture, music, and laughter. She reminisced with her loved ones, sipped her favorite drink, and prayed with grace and gratitude. As we grieve her passing, we celebrate a life lived with passion, strength, and unwavering faith.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 21, at 11:30 AM at Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Virginia Beach.

Praying for God's peace and comfort for the family. Find peace and comfort knowing that Titi Elsie is in the comforting arms of Jesus. Titi, thank you for the memories. I will always remember the weekends I loved spending with you when I was a young girl. The places you took me to and the things you taught me (especially table manners that I didn't know). I will always remember your laughter. Thank you for your prayers and guidance when I was seeking the Lord. You're at peace now, my dear Aunt, smiling and no pain. Good Bye, until we meet again.

Dear Lizette, Vinnie and Tio Vicente, I was heartbroken to hear of Titi Elsie's passing. She was not only my aunt but also a dear friend and spiritual mentor. Her grace and unwavering support during one of the most challenging times in my life made an indelible impact on my journey with God. Together, we shared laughter and tears, and her strength and love were a beacon of hope for me, especially after the loss of her older sister my beloved mom, Mercedes. I will forever cherish the memories Titi and I created and the lessons she imparted in my heart that will forever live in me. In this difficult time, I find comfort in the words of Scripture: "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." (Matthew 5:4 In this time of sorrow, let us lean on God for strength, peace and comfort. Heavenly Father, we come before You, seeking Your peace and reassurance during this difficult time. Please grant my family the strength to navigate this profound loss. As Your Word assures us, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." (Psalm 34:18) May we find solace in Your presence and in the love we share for one another. Amen. Titi Elsie's legacy of love and kindness will live on in all of us. I extend my heartfelt condolences to her husband and children. May you find peace and comfort in one another and in the cherished memories of your beloved wife and mother. Sending you all my love and prayers. With deepest sympathy and love, Antonio jr. [Papo]
