Obituary For Elsie Mosquera
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Elsie Mirles Mosquera, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt, and woman of extraordinary faith. Elsie passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family and friends on December 30, 2024 at the age of 86 years old.
Born in Puerto Rico, Elsie’s life was defined by her resilience, faith, and deep devotion to her family. As a young woman, she moved to New York City, where she completed her schooling and began building a beautiful life. Elsie met the love of her life, Vicente Mosquera, and the two were married. Their honeymoon was a joyful journey around the island, creating treasured memories.
The couple eventually settled in New Jersey, where Elsie was a dedicated stay-at-home mother and entrepreneur, running a hair salon from her home to help support the family. Elsie returned to school to pursue her passion for caregiving, earning her credentials as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Her commitment to self-improvement and her compassionate spirit inspired all who knew her.
When the family moved to Virginia in 1992, Elsie helped fulfill her husband's dream of owning a family restaurant, Mediterraneo Ristorante, in Grafton. Her warmth and hospitality left a lasting impression on everyone who visited. She returned to her passion in nursing, as a hospital nurse and then as a school nurse, dedicating her care and compassion to children in the community.
Elsie was a devoted member of her church and found strength in her unwavering faith. Her love for God and family was the foundation of her life and the legacy she leaves behind. Elsie was an accomplished gardener and she often enjoyed spending time with her Lord in her flower and vegetable gardens.
She is survived by her loving family, including her husband, Vinny of 59 years, her children Lizette and Vinnie (Jennifer), grandchildren, Tiana (Dean), Frankie, Tessa, Jackson, Isabella, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved deeply.
Her deep affection for her furry companions was evident throughout her life. She leaves behind her beloved dogs, who brought her immense joy and comfort.
In her final days, Elsie’s room was filled with love, scripture, music, and laughter. She reminisced with her loved ones, sipped her favorite drink, and prayed with grace and gratitude. As we grieve her passing, we celebrate a life lived with passion, strength, and unwavering faith.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 21, at 11:30 AM at Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Virginia Beach.
