Emma Jean Apodaca, 93, went to be with the Lord on May 25, 2025 at Norfolk Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Norfolk, Virginia. She was born in Radford, Virginia on September 15, 1931, the daughter of Frank M. and Geneva Huffines Wilson. She had two sisters, Victoria Martin Poteat and Virginia Wilson Griffith, who died in 2017 and 2013. She graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in Kingsport, Tennessee in 1949 and from the University of Virginia School of Nursing in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1952. Emma Jean married Navy diver Gregory Apodaca in 1969 in San Diego, California. The couple moved back to Virginia and later divorced. She was a faithful member of Second Presbyterian Church in Norfolk, Virginia. Emma Jean worked as a registered nurse for more than thirty years in various locations in southeastern Virginia. Her favorite assignments were in pediatric nursing. This Sunday, June 1, she will be remembered during the 11:00 a.m. worship service at Second Presbyterian Church, 7305 Hampton Blvd., Norfolk.
