Obituary For Evelyn Landas DeCastro

Virginia Beach - On Thursday, March 20, 2025, Evelyn Landas De Castro passed away peacefully in her sleep. Evelyn was a woman of profound faith, love, and devotion to her family and friends. Her greatest passion was sharing the love of Jesus Christ and inspiring others to receive Him as their Lord and Savior. She dedicated her life to service and selfless giving, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Born in the Philippines, Evelyn married Ruben De Castro on January 4, 1965. Following Ruben's enlistment in the U.S. Navy and his becoming an American citizen, Evelyn moved to the United States to reunite with her husband and start a new life together in Athens, Georgia. Later, when Ruben was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, they purchased their first home in Virginia Beach, where they raised their three children. They were married for over 56 years.

Before her marriage, Evelyn attended Lyceum of the Philippines University in Manila, completing two years of college. During her marriage, she served at the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) for ten years, corresponding with ministry partners. She also ministered at The Filipino Rock Church, served as an elder at Faith Works Church and Abounding Grace Church, and was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. For over twenty years, she led a home Bible study that met every Sunday. But to Evelyn, titles were insignificant; what mattered most was demonstrating Christ's love to others and building up the faith of believers.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her father Francisco Landas, her mother Elizabeth Landas, her brothers Frankie and Rolando Landas, and her husband Ruben De Castro. She is survived by her sister Myrna Jimenez, brother Edwin Landas, sister Mylene Javier, son Rucel De Castro, daughter Ruby De Castro-Brown, son Rudel De Castro, daughter-in-law Tracee De Castro, son-in-law Paul Brown, granddaughters Kelsey Willets, Morgan De Castro, Mya De Castro, Avalyn Brown, and Grace De Castro, grandsons Riley De Castro and Christian Brown, grandson-in-law Javier Willets, great-granddaughter Genesis Willets, and great-grandson Beckham Willets.

Ate Evelyn was my beloved and closest cousin. Ever since I came to this country, the de Castro family has felt like my second family here on the East Coast. While living in North Carolina for many years, I always looked forward to visiting—it was a time to rest, reset, and feel at home. Even after moving to Africa, I made it a point to stop by and visit whenever I could. She was a woman of deep faith and strong conviction. She encouraged and guided me and my family, especially during the hard times. She was one of my anchors when life felt heavy, always reminding me to turn to Scripture and trust in God. I've always enjoyed her telling stories about our grandparents, our aunts and uncles. Those moments helped keep our family's history alive, and they meant so much to me. As many of you know, she was a woman of prayer. She carried on the legacy of our grandmother, who faithfully prayed for the whole family. I often called her when I needed prayer, and she was always there. Her passing leaves a big hole in my life. But I find comfort knowing she's now where she's always longed to be—in the presence of our Heavenly Father. We used to joke about who would go "home" first. She will be deeply missed. But I look forward to seeing her again when that day comes.

Our deepest sympathy and sincere condolences go to all the DeCastro family members. Sister Evelyn was an angel here on earth. She was always there to pray for us, remind us how God loves us, encourage us to keep our faith strong, to always strive to live our lives as an example to glorify God in everything. I have always anticipated her calls because just speaking to her made me glad and she always had biblical scriptures ready to share with me. She is sorely missed but I am sure she is happy where she is now. Her memory will always be cherished. Zenaida & C.J. Votipka
