Obituary For Everett Bryan Newsome

Norfolk, VA - Everett Bryan Newsome, a beloved father, veteran, and educator, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026, in Norfolk, Virginia, at the age of 78. Born on January 20, 1948, in Portsmouth, Virginia, Everett lived a life marked by dedication to his country and the education of others.

Everett proudly served in the United States Navy, where he devoted many years to the service of his nation. Following his military career, he pursued his passion for education, earning a Master's Degree and sharing his knowledge with countless students as a dedicated teacher. His commitment to learning and his selfless service left an indelible impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He loved being out in nature, camping and riding trains and he was a model railroader building train sets from scratch, the buildings, trees, people, etc., even had a "train room" in each of his houses. He also, loved music especially classical, opera, and yacht rock.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Elaine (Sweeney) Newsome, and his beloved wife, Georgene Lee (Black) Newsome. He leaves behind his son, Keefe Newsome, and his wife, Julie, their child Casey Grey Newsome, daughter, Cheriton Newsome Thomasson, her husband, Tracy, and their children, William Trent Thomasson (Hailey), and Everett Trey Thomasson, along with other family members and friends who will cherish his memory and legacy.

    Bryan was inspirational in so many ways! Carolyn and I have a train room ourselves due to his love of trains - he will be missed!! Our condolences to everyone who was touched and inspired by him!
