Obituary For George Chagetas

Virginia Beach - George Chagetas, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to many passed unexpectedly August 4, 2025 age 92 in his sleep. He was born in Highland Town Baltimore, MD - November 27, 1932.

George embarked on a long and distinguished career in civil and survey engineering in MD. He built many bridges and roadways in Maryland and would take hot weather vs cold weather working outside any day of the year. His contributions left a lasting impact on his projects and colleagues.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Constantine "Gus" and Angeliki Kostanduras-Chagetas, whose legacy he carried forward with dignity and honor. He is survived by his devoted wife, Tecla (Foehrkolb) Chagetas who now resides in a Memory Center. His cherished daughter, Maria Dora (Chagetas) Jackson and two grandchildren, Benjamin Jackson and Lily Jackson will miss their Papou, who he was known to be called by many. He leaves a legacy of love and respect for family and friends.

George spent much of his life hunting and fishing with friends and close loved ones.

He and his wife traveled extensively and after visiting their daughter and grand kids for many years made the decision to move to Atlantic Shores. Over the last 10 years they met a new set of friends whom they enjoyed so much in their Golden Years.

Dad’s motto of “ Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance “ will grace many who adopt the saying and to do it too!

Those who wish to honor George's memory may share memories and express condolences at SimplyCremationonline.com. A Celebration of Life is planned for September. Donations may go to Atlantic Shores Employee Fund.

Dear Maria, please excuse the belatedness of this note. I am sorry to hear your dad passed away. He did have a good happy life! He was a good man I wish more men were like him. Uncle Chick as we all called him was very easy to talk to. My oldest son Gus said he always enjoyed talking to him. The memories of all of the uncles hunting and bringing home birds and ducks and geese and rabbits. to eat. I still have some pictures of that. Take care love Tecla, Mike and family.
