Gilberto Mercado, 53, of Norfolk, Virginia, passed away on November 21, 2025.

Born on August 30, 1972, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Gilberto was a devoted father, grandfather, son, and nephew. He was known for his quick wit and natural gift for comedy, always finding a way to bring joy and laughter into any room. Whether sharing a story, cracking a joke, or lightening the mood in difficult moments, Gilberto’s presence was one that lifted others.

He was happiest outdoors—especially when he was grilling, surrounded by the people he loved. Family, food, and good conversation were at the heart of who he was. Gilberto also carried a strong work ethic throughout his career as a warehouse supervisor, where his leadership and reliability earned him deep respect from colleagues and staff.

Gilberto is lovingly remembered by his children, Damien, Krystal, and Daniel Mercado; his cherished grandchildren, Hendrix, Elian, and Eleanor; his mother, Maria; and his beloved aunt Mayra, who held a special place in his heart. He is also remembered with love by extended family, friends, and all who were touched by his humor, kindness, and authenticity.

Service details will be shared with family and loved ones at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Simply Cremation.
