Gisela Margarete Schwarzenberg, aged 86, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, in Newport News, Virginia. She was born on August 27, 1939, in Leipzig, Germany. Her parents, Margarete Schwarzenberg and Arthur Bley preceded her in death.

Gisela dedicated her life to the healing profession, serving as a doctor specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. In the late 1980s her professional interest shifted to help with the AIDS crisis, and she founded the Zwickauer AIDS Hilfe e.V in Zwickau, Germany. Through her work with the foundation, she helped educate thousands and counseled hundreds from all stages in life. Some of her earliest visitors are still here today due to her help and guidance and became dear friends over the decades as did those who had joined her in the fight against AIDS. Her compassionate care and unwavering dedication to her patients left an indelible mark on the countless lives she touched throughout her career.

She left Germany after retiring for sunny Florida and spend 20 years on Pine Island most of which in Pine Island Cove. She made many friends, participated in many committees and loved participating in all sorts of crafts including Bobby Lacing, Knitting and Quilting. Only after Hurricane Ian destroyed her beloved home did she move to Virginia. She spent the next 3 years living with her daughter Katy’s family and spending time with her rescue Chihuahua Bibi.

She is survived by her beloved dog Bibi. Her granddaughter Alia and daughter Katy, who carry forward her legacy of strength and kindness.

Her son in law David as well as her other daughter Anja and her husband Andre R and Grandchildren Alex and Amily living in Germany.

Gisela's life was a testament to her resilient spirit and commitment to the well-being of others.

Her memory will be cherished by her family, friends, and all those whose lives were enriched by her presence.
