Virginia Beach - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gloria “Nana” Emily Riner , a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this world on October 5th, 2025 at the age of 76.

Born on February 24, 1949 in New York, NY, Gloria was a woman of fierce loyalty, quiet strength, and an unmatched love for her family—and, yes, a good slot machine.

Gloria was the beloved daughter of late Jerry and Emily Benes. She is preceded in death by her sister, Geraldine Benes; daughter, Nancy Fagg; and her grandson, Jason Fagg.

Gloria is survived by her brother Eddie Benes (Carmelita); daughter, Dawn Riner; grandchildren, Christina Laster (Frank), Andrew Riner, Samantha Fagg (Jeffrey); and great grandchildren, Shayla Laster, Hazel Moncada, and Aliza Laster as well as many other beloved family members and friends.

Her laugh, her honesty, and her unapologetic stubborn streak made her unforgettable to all who knew her. She didn’t sugarcoat her opinions, but you always knew where you stood with her—and that you were deeply loved.

Whether she was sitting at her computer playing her favorite game, Bejeweled, eating mountains of crab, or trying her luck at the slots (which she swore she had a special touch for), Gloria lived life on her own terms. She had a knack for knowing when to hold firm and when to wrap you in a hug—and she did both with heart.

Her greatest joy was her family. She was the rock, the matriarch, the one who showed us how to love hard, speak the truth, and laugh often. Holidays, birthdays, and even the smallest get-togethers were made brighter by her presence, her stories, and her deviled eggs.

Life is a gamble—but love, for her, was a sure bet.

Rest in peace, Nana. You were one of a kind.
