Obituary For Harry Moore

Harry Moore, 89, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, in Portsmouth, Virginia. Born on May 12, 1936, in Raleigh, North Carolina, Harry lived a life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and leadership in his professional endeavors.

A proud veteran, Harry served in the United States Air Force, demonstrating a commitment to duty and country that remained with him throughout his life. Following his military service, he channeled his drive and entrepreneurial spirit into building a successful career. He was the founder and owner of Industrial Diesel and served as the president of the Association of Diesel Specialists where he earned respect for his leadership and vision.

Harry’s legacy is deeply rooted in the love he shared with his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Mary Alice Moore; daughters Melanie Moore and Laura Rountree (Mike); son Michael (Sara); grandsons Jonathan (Brooke) and Jaxson; granddaughters Rebecca and Maggie; and great-grandsons James and Brantley. His twin sister Connie, younger sisters Martha, and Judy (Ed) also carry forward cherished memories of their brother.

A celebration of Harry’s life will be held at Hub 757 on August 24th in Suffolk, Virginia at 3:00 pm.

Known affectionately by many as “The Man, The Myth, The Legend,” Harry leaves behind a legacy of strength, perseverance, and love. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.

    I was deeply saddened to hear about Harry's passing. He was such a kind and thoughtful man, always with a warm smile and a friendly word. I truly enjoyed having him as a neighbor and will miss seeing him around. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.
