Obituary For Harvey A. Whitehurst, Jr.

Chesapeake

Harvey Augustus Whitehurst, Jr., 80, of Chesapeake passed away in his home Tuesday, November 10, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Whitehurst was born on December 2, 1934 in Norfolk and was the son of the late Harvey A. and Gwendolyn Whitehurst. He was also predeceased by his loving wife, Sarah - Lou Whitehurst. Harvey graduated Bob Jones University with a bachelors of art in teaching and a minor in history. He and his wife Sarah were missionaries in multiple countries. He had a strong relationship with the Lord. Harvey volunteered in the jail ministry. He was in the naval reserves. He enjoyed being an avid salt water fisherman, and eating blue crabs. Harvey and his granddaughters enjoyed spending time together and sharing with their love of a sweet tooth. Harvey had several wonderful canine companions with Duke being his last loyal companion for many years. In his last few months it wasn't rare to find him playing baby dolls with his youngest granddaughter Tessa, sharing books and reading with his eldest granddaughter Summer, coloring and working on arts with his middle granddaughter Sarah-lynn( Makenzie) and special tee time moments with Suzanne, his very loved and appreciated daughter- in-law. He leaves behind sons, Kelly and John Whitehurst. Daughter in law Suzanne Whitehurst. Three granddaughters Summer, Sarah-lynn, and Tessa. He also leaves behind several siblings Ugene Whitehurst, George Whitehurst, Elizabeth Silvers, and Timothy Whitehurst. He is also survived by Many cousins, nieces and nephews , and a brother and three sister in laws. Also by his late wife's brothers family James and Linda McDaniel.     I am thankful for the friendship I have had with Harvey and his family over the years.I kenw him in high school, collage and when we got out of collage.My sympathy gos out to his family.I know he will be missed by all.
