James Richard Cox

February 23rd, 1952- August 15th, 2026

Virginia Beach, VA - James “ Richard” Cox born in Norfolk , Virginia to James and Betty Cox, he was the Valedictorian of the class of 1970 at Lake Taylor High School, Graduate of Virginia Tech, Summa Cum Laude, class of 1974, T.C. Williams School Of Law at the University of Richmond, Masters of Divinity from the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary at Wake Forest N.C., Faithful Civil Servant of over 20 years and longtime member and final pastor of Park Place Baptist Church in Norfolk Virginia.

Richard as he was known as to all his family and friends was predeceased by his father James D. Cox and mother Betty (Bryan) Cox, brother Russell A. Cox and Sister-in-law Mary Cox.

Left to cherish his memory are Sister Vicky Jones and her husband Darwin Jones, and Brother David S. Cox, and nephews Nicholas Jones, Justin Jones, Andrew Cox, Randal Cox, Ryan Cox and Nieces Jessica Cox and Taylor Cox, and countless great-nieces and great-nephews, and many friends.

Richard loved the lord with all his heart and loved the Beatles; Psalm 23 was one of his favorite bible verses.

A Special Thanks to Sentara Hospice and Davita Kidney Specialists and Sister Vicky Jones and Nephew Andrew Cox, for all they have done for James Richard Cox. Memorial services are still being planned at this moment.
