Obituary For James Victor Allred

James Victor Allred, 84, peacefully passed away on August 21, 2022 in Virginia Beach. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis Victor Allred and Hazel Grogan Allred Parker; a son, James Barry Allred; sisters Barbara Wilson, Betty Morgan; and brother William Ronald Allred. A native of High Point, NC, James spent most of his childhood in the Academy Park section of Portsmouth, VA and attended Cradock High School. Part of his early adulthood was spent working in Colorado, and it remained one of his favorite places on earth. James began his career at NORSHIPCO as a helper and retired after 38 years of service. Most of that time was spent in the Blacksmith shop, but he ended his tenure as foreman of the Blacksmith, Plate, Welding and Crane shops. An avid automobile lover, he also owned a successful body shop in Chesapeake, VA for several years. He was an active member of NASCAR (Modified and Grand National Series) for over 15 years, co-owning and serving as mechanic and ‘body man’ of several cars. James loved telling hilarious tales from the racing days, as he and the crew raced tracks up and down the eastern seaboard. These were some of his most treasured memories. Over the years he rarely missed a televised race, and the DVR was always full of those he couldn’t catch live. James is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda (Frazier); daughter Beverly Mahoney and husband Shawn; granddaughter Riley Mahoney; sister Brenda Mitchusson; and several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. He was a larger than life presence and personality with an exceptional sense of humor; a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandpa who will be missed. He also leaves behind his constant canine companion, Foxy. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff at the Berger-Goldrich home at Beth Shalom Village for their exceptional care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

    Remembering good times

  • 08/26/2022

I have known James and Linda since the 1950s. My memories are of our teenage years. Even at that early age, I admired their love for each other. We roamed the streets of Academy Park and spent many hours at the Recreation Center. I called him Allred and he will forever be part of my life. Linda, my heart breaks for you. WE reconnected a few years ago and you also have a part in my present life. He is with God now who will also love him forever.
