Obituary For Jamie Lynn Payfer

Virginia Beach, VA - Jamie Lynn Payfer, born on November 9, 1978, in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, passed away on September 14, 2026, in Chesapeake, Virginia, at the age of 47. Her departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her.

Jamie’s life was marked by her deep and abiding love for animals, a passion that she transformed into a lifelong vocation. She dedicated her career to animal care, tirelessly working to ensure the well-being of countless creatures who benefited from her empathy and commitment.

Her gentle spirit and unwavering devotion to the welfare of animals were evident to all who met her. Jamie's connection with animals was matched by her kindness and generosity towards those around her, making her a cherished friend and confidante to many.

Jamie was steadfastly loyal to her friends and has several friendships stretching back to early elementary school. She was compassionate, caring and quick to offer help wherever she could. She loved the show General Hospital which became something of a family tradition with her mother, father and sister. Throughout her life, she embodied the values of compassion and service. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Judy (Austin) Payfer. She is survived by her father, John "Jack" Payfer, her husband, Neil Kennedy, from whom she was separated, her six children, Ryan, Cheyenne, Sean, Stephanie, Patrick and Autumn, as well as a host of other family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

In accordance with her family’s wishes, no services are planned at this time. Simply Cremation is assisting Jamie’s family during this difficult period. Those wishing to share memories and express condolences are invited to do so at SimplyCremationOnline.com.

    Ps. Jamie, I am not great with words, but I don't think you knew how much I loved you, my heart aches to think of life without you. We definitely had some good times. I remember when we all went on a camping trip. It was definitely not glamping, but you never complained, but we definitely made a memory. Jamie, may you rest in peace, love you. Terri.

    I was so blessed to know Jamie when she was a young teenager at VBCC and I was a youth group leader. I have been friends with her ever since. I absolutely loved her laugh, I loved how she cared greatly for her family and friends, and would do what ever she could for them.     Oh my sweet best friend of 43 years how my heart is truly broken and empty knowing your gone is still unbelievable to me. I sit here remembering all the memories we shared throughout these 43 years. You loved my kids like no other. I witnessed, felt, and experienced the love you had for everything that crossed your path, whether it be an animal, a person you always gave your all to make sure everything worked out. Jamie you were truly a blessing to us all. Your love for the ones close to you and the ones that crossed your path was truly unconditional. Oh my sweet sister/friend I wish you truly knew how much you were truly loved, valued, and a true blessing to so many especially me and my family. Jamie this hurts so bad knowing I will continue my life without you, without another phone call, without seeing you, without having you just a phone call away. For 43 years I have always had you by my side through the good and the bad. I truly just do understand why. I love you Jamie I will always cherish the many memories we shared, the love you had for me, the strength you taught me, the compassion you had and most of all the unconditional love you had for everyone...     Jamie will be missed greatly. I worked with Jamie for a few months at Cosmos. She was a hard worker, a person who cared for the pups and her coworkers. It is truely heart breaking to have heard of a good soul pass away. May she rest in peace.

    Hearing of Jamie's passing was heartbreaking. I may have only known her briefly from working together at Cosmo's Corner, but during that time she proved to be one of kindest, most passionate of souls. She was always so sweet, showing up with a smile on her face, and happy to care for the pups. She adored my little Yorkie, Mable. She made sure us humans were taken care of as well, always checking in on how we were doing. I hope she is at peace. My heart goes out to her family. ❤️

    I had the greatest pleasure of working with Jamie at Cosmos Corner. She was the sweetest, kindest and the most hardworking woman I have ever met. She always knew how to cheer me up when I was having a rough day and was always there for me to talk to. I will never forget her or her drive to make sure every dog was taken care of and loved.
