Obituary For Jean Elizabeth Baum Williamson

Virginia Beach- Jean Elizabeth Baum Williamson, 89, from Lake Waccamaw, NC, passed away on Wednesday May 10, 2023 at The Waterford in Virginia Beach, VA.

Jean was born November 12, 1933, to Benjamin Davis Hood and Hattie Agnes Thomas Hood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life Tony Randolph Baum and their son, Lynn Hood Baum, and L. Earl Williamson.

Jean is survived by her children, Deborah Jankiewicz (Tim) of VA Beach, VA, Steven R. Baum (Joan) of Portsmouth, VA, Jacqueline Gearles (Dale) of Richmond, VA, Deanna King (Doug) of Newark, CA and Daughter-in-law, Trudy Baum (Lynn) of Richmond, VA., 15 Grandchildren and their spouses and 17 Great Grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Jean retired after 30 years of service from the Norfolk City Public Schools as lead administrator at Lake Taylor HS. She lived a life full of love and faith and driven by a desire to help others as shown in her involvement with numerous organizations in her community. She was a member and office holder of the Tidewater Quilter’s Guild before moving to Lake Waccamaw. After retiring and relocating to the Lake, she was a member and treasurer of the Genealogy Club, the Lake Waccamaw Museum, a local book club, the University of Wilmington Oratory, food ministry, and member of Lake Waccamaw Presbyterian Church and Choir. Her greatest joy was her family. She was a loving and devoted Mother, Mother-in-law, Grandmama, and friend. Generous with her time, talents and perpetual smile, she will be missed beyond measure and most notably for saying, “there are Diamonds on the Lake today".

Our family would like to extend their gratitude for the staff at The Waterford, where she resided the last few years of her life. Gentiva Hospice for providing comfort and care for Jean and family.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lake Waccamaw Presbyterian Church, Church Street, Lake Waccamaw, NC 28450.

Dear Debbie, Jackie, Diana, and Steven, I was very sorry to read your mom's notice in the paper. She was a very fine person and it sounds like she had a lovely life down in Waccamaw. I am sorry that Betty and Ken and I have lost touch with all of you kids. We really loved your Mom, Daggie and Ben. We would like to get in touch with you if that's possible. Esther Talley Dean. 757-650-9903.
