Obituary For Jill Ann Mishkel

Jill Ann Mishkel, 74, of Portsmouth, VA passed away on March 28th, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Genevieve and Theodore Mishkel, and her sister, Jacqueline Mishkel.

Jill is survived by her brothers William Mishkel, Mark (Sissy) Mishkel and sister, Michele Mishkel.

Nephews Christian (Rachel) McGlynn and Raymond McGlynn, William and Matthew Mishkel, and Gary Eddy. Nieces Kim (Kevin) Gray, Alexa Mishkel, and Angelina Malone. As well as Great Nieces Lilah McGlynn, Katherine Gray, and Great Nephew James Gray.

Jill served as an Army Nurse in 1970-1971 with the 24th Evac Hospital in Long Binh, Vietnam, and was honored by the Army for her “Exemplary Service.”

Jill was an advocate for Veterans and notably served as Chairman of the State Women Veterans Task Force in 1986 while living in Connecticut. Her efforts helped to amend a bill to include much-needed aid for female Veterans.

Jill was one of twenty-six women whose story was featured in the book, “A Piece of My Heart: The Stories of 26 American Women who served in Vietnam” published in 1997.

Jill continued to be involved with Veterans causes participating in Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 969.

Jill was a Nurse Practitioner studying at the University of Hartford and receiving her Master’s Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University.

A celebration of her life will be on July 20th, 2024, when she was looking forward to celebrating her 75th birthday.
