He held a Master's degree, which he pursued with dedication and pride.

John was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Chauncey and Grace Smith, whose values and spirit he carried forward in his life's work. He is survived by his cherished wife, Sarah B. Smith, and their children, who were the light of his life. He also leaves behind an extended family and many dear friends who mourn his passing.
