Virginia Beach - John Sattelmaier, 75, born in Croatia, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Lynn.

John immigrated to America at the age of six with his parents, grandparents, and younger brother. To say he lived an extraordinary life would be an understatement. A true self-made man, he worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He would give you the shirt off his back, drop everything to lend a hand, and was the most loyal man his family and friends ever knew.

His greatest pride was always his family, and nothing brought him more joy than watching it grow as ‘Bepaw’ to his grandchildren.

Although he grew up in Richmond, John fulfilled a lifelong dream when he moved to Chic's Beach later in life. His days were spent enjoying coastal living: fishing, sharing time with family and friends, sitting on the deck, sharing a great meal, and simply enjoying the beach. He truly kept an open house, welcoming anyone who came through the door. Those moments created memories his friends and family will cherish forever.

John was preceded in death by his father, Joe. He is survived by his mother, Sofi, and his wife, Lynn; his children, Tracey (Nick) and Joe (Stephanie); his brother, Michael; and his five grandchildren, Trey, Jack, Logan, Kate, and Gavin, whom he proudly called his greatest legacy. He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.
