Obituary For Joyce Marylee Stott
Joyce M. Stott passed away Feb 3, 2025, in Chesapeake, VA at the age of 102. Joyce was born Nov 1, 1922, in Toledo, Ohio to Fred and Helen Snody. She had a younger brother who passed away in 2021 at the age of 92.
When Joyce was in her 20’s she sang with the George Duffy Orchestra at the Hotel Syracuse in New York City in 1942. She sang under the name of Joyce Perry and the band made it to Billboard Magazine because of an auto accident one of the cars had during a snowstorm.
Joyce met a young sailor named Joe Stott in 1942 and married him in June of 1943. Joyce and Joe had 4 children during their navy life, Linda Colley, Joe T. Stott, James E. Stott, and Susan Midgett. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren. A family memorial will be held at a later date.

Please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of this sweet lady. I met Joy through her brother Fred who sadly is no longer with us. Through our phone chats over the last few years I came to know her as a kind, down to earth caregiver to many in her family across the generations. I marveled at her unwavering cheerfulness and how lucid she was for a centenarian. She deeply loved her family and they returned the sentiment. She was a fine person and will be sorely missed.
