Obituary For Karen Hon Martino
Karen H. Martino, the beloved wife of James J. Martino for 35 years, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025, at her home in Virginia Beach, VA, at the age of 75.
Born in Long Island, NY, to Maiza and Alvis Hon, Karen fondly recalled her childhood years in
Oklahoma City, OK and Norfolk, VA. She graduated from Norview High School and Old
Dominion University, and then later the Reporting Academy of Virginia. Karen’s professional
journey included roles as a Bank Teller Supervisor, a Court Reporter for Biggs and Fleet, and a Proofreader for PETA.
Karen leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her husband, James J. Martino; her cousin, Sandra Kent and her husband, James Kent, and their sons, Alex and Michael; her cousin, Martin Palmer; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and their families, including Peter J. Martino and his wife Sally E. Martino and their sons, Brice, Myles, Nicholas, and Tyler; Steven P. Martino and his wife Cynthia Martino; Michelle L. Martino and her son Cory; Patrick Martino and his children Patrick and Olivia; Robert Martino; and Nicole Ashley and her son James and her two long time best friends, Gail Crawford and Catheryn Chitty.
Karen was predeceased by her parents, Maiza Flewelling Hon and Alvis M. Hon; her aunt, Sue
Palmer; her cousin, Max Palmer; and her in-laws, Delores M. DaSilva and James R. Martino.
Karen’s passions included the arts, particularly artwork and embroidery. She generously
supported causes close to her heart, including the ASPCA, Disabled American Veterans, and
Boys Town. In lieu of flowers, please request a Mass be offered in Karen’s memory at your local Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated followed by final internment on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 7:00 PM at the Catholic Church of St. Mark, 1505 Kempsville Rd., Virginia Beach, VA 23464. The Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM, and there will be a reception in the church's Great Hall following mass.
