Obituary For Kenneth Stephen Merner
Virginia Beach, VA - Kenneth Stephen Merner, Kenny, a beloved husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, and son, passed away peacefully on August 15th, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was a man whose greatest accomplishments were not measured by titles or possessions, but by the love he gave and the lives he touched. To his wife, Mary, he was a devoted husband and lifelong partner. To his children, Heather (Kevin), Sarah (Jason), and Aidan, he was a loving father, protector, teacher, and source of strength. To his grandchildren, Finn, Waylon, Zane, and Hattie, he was their cherished papa—the one whose love, hugs, stories, laughter, and presence made them feel safe and deeply loved. He will also be lovingly remembered by his father, Gerry, sisters, Jacque and Denise, nieces, Ashley and Shelbie, nephews, Stephen, Drew, and Nathan, great-nieces, Hylah, Teagan, Kennedy, Millie, and Ruby, and great-nephew, Rory, and countless friends.
Kenny had a way of making people feel important and loved. His kindness, silliness, wisdom, and generous heart will remain in the memories of everyone who knew him. Though his absence leaves an emptiness that can never be filled, his love will continue through the family and friends he cherished and the memories they will carry forever. He leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love—a legacy that will live on in his children, grandchildren, family, and all those whose lives he touched.
Kenny took great pride in his successful career in development, completing his career as Vice President of Engineering with Boyd Homes. His professional accomplishments were a source of great satisfaction, but those who knew him will remember him just as much for his integrity, dedication, and willingness to help others.
A service celebrating Kenny’s life will be held Sunday, September 13th, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Sandbridge Community Chapel United Methodist Church. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate Kenny’s life and share in remembrance. Following, all are invited to join the family next-door at the Sandbridge Community Center for a time of fellowship, refreshments, and sharing memories of Kenny. Forever our husband, dad, papa, brother, uncle, and son. Forever loved. Forever missed. Rest peacefully, you will never be forgotten.
