Obituary For Kenneth Wayne Thomas

Kenneth "Wayne" Thomas went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 6, 2016.

He was born May 8, 1942 in Norfolk, Virginia and was a lifelong resident of Virginia Beach.

Wayne served in the U.S. Navy and retired as the owner of the contracting company, General Home Improvements.

Wayne lived life to the fullest. He was an avid deep sea fisherman, pool player and could never pass up a good flea market. He loved spending time with his family. Wayne's larger than life personality made him the life of the party. His jokes and contagious laughter would light up any room, and he was a oneofakind soul who never met a stranger.

Wayne was predeceased by his father, Robert Harris Thomas; his mother, Nancy Estelle Horton Thomas; and his brother, Robert 'Harry' Thomas, Jr.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his wife and best friend of 40 years, Joyce E. Thomas; his 3 daughters Angela, Melissa (Brian), & Erica (Lars); his seven grandchildren Taylor (Samantha), Nicolas, Jackie, Madison, Carter, Bri, & Hanne; two greatgrandchildren, Dominic & Frank. Also, he is survived by his sister Jean Harris (Perry), his sisterinlaw Teresa Thomas and numerous extended family & friends.

A celebration of Wayne's life will be held Saturday, January 16, at 2:00 p.m. at Providence Mennonite Church, 5363 Old Providence Road in Virginia Beach, VA. A private military burial, with honors, will be held at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Cemetery, in Suffolk, VA at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to: Wounded Warriors at PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 or at www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate.

So many wonderful things can be said about Uncle Wayne... he was always making everyone laugh and shake their head. I will never forget the day he taught me how to play Shut the Box... I was only like 8 or 9 and still to this day I always hear his voice when I play it. I always looked forward to seeing him when we took our trips down to VA. He will truly be missed and my heart is forever with my Aunt and cousins and their loved ones. Uncle Wayne, may you forever be bumping elbows with Jesus and giving God a good laugh with your sense of humor.

Joyce, We were so sorry to learn about Wayne's passing. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. May God's peace be with you and bring you comfort. Psalms 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Uncle Wayne’s deep voice and laugh gave him away every time. He was always teasing and joking with everyone around him. I loved the way his eyes smiled like Granny’s. I will miss hearing him and my dad debate over which one was Granny’s favorite. I bet Uncle Wayne and Dad are already cutting up and having a good time with Granny and Granddad in heaven. Herman and I send our love and prayers during this difficult time.

Joyce and family, My heart and prayers are with you all as you experience this great loss. I will always remember Wayne for his hearty laugh, his "it's as simple as that" way of approaching life, and just the way he was always ready to "take the bull by the horns", so to speak. What a large and generous spirit he had, and what a gift he had for making everyone around him enjoy the moment! We need more people like Wayne in the world.
