Laura Munden Brooks, 76, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at her residence in Virginia Beach, after a 12 year battle with cancer. Born January 29, 1938 in Elizabeth City, NC, she was the daughter of the late Charles Henry Munden and Helen Jordan Munden and was also predeceased by her husband of 39 years, Robert Millard Brooks and her brother, William Charles Munden.

Laura loved her dogs and treated them not as pets, but members of the family. She was predeceased by Penny, Sweetie, and Muffin. She is survived by Buddy.

In their active years, she and her husband enjoyed surfing, camping, sailing and beachcombing. Laura was an avid fan of both football and baseball, and her favorite teams were the Miami Dolphins and the Atlanta Braves.

Laura is survived by a daughter, Katherine Brooks Carpenter and husband Charles Clinton Carpenter, II; a son, Joseph McNeil Brooks; grandsons, Alex McNeil Brooks, and Charles Jerould Carpenter II; a great-granddaughter, Layla Marie Brooks; a sister, Pattie Munden Grady and husband Ellis; a sister, Jean Munden Breeland and husband William; a sister-in-law, Sherry Harry Munden; a brother-in-law, Leon Orlando Brooks and wife Judy; twelve nieces and nephews. Laura was especially close to niece, Kimberlee Grady Ames and husband Mark of Richmond, VA.
