Lawrence Eldrich Shields, affectionately known as “Larry,” 81, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, in Norfolk, Virginia.

Born on August 19, 1945, in New York, Larry was the son of Lawrence Eldrich Shields Sr. and Louise Yoder.

Larry proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he dedicated his working years to the construction industry as a brick mason. Through his craftsmanship, strong work ethic, and dedication, he helped build structures that would stand for generations.

Beyond his years of service and hard work, Larry found happiness in life’s simple pleasures, especially those that brought him together with the people he loved. He enjoyed playing poker, spending time in the kitchen preparing meals for his family, and relaxing while watching old movies and classic westerns. Cooking for his loved ones was one of the ways he shared his time and care, creating memories around the table that his family will cherish.

Larry’s life was enriched by the love of his family. Whether enjoying a favorite western, gathering around a table for a game of poker, or preparing a home-cooked meal, he appreciated the familiar comforts and meaningful moments that made life special.

Larry leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Laurie Games Shields; his daughter, Kaylee Ann Shields; his youngest son, Joshua Shields, and his wife, Leann; and his beloved grandchildren, Gabriella, Isaiah, Faith, and Caleb. His memory will live on through the generations of his family and the many moments they shared together.

Though Larry’s earthly journey has come to an end, the love he shared, the meals he prepared, the stories told, and the memories made will remain with those who knew him best. He will be remembered for the life he lived, the family he loved, and the lasting place he holds in their hearts.
