Obituary For Leonard Liberto, Jr.

Virginia Beach, VA

Leonard Liberto Jr., born August 29, 1929, died way too soon! His unfortunate death occurred as a result of being struck and run over by a backhoe at Stoney's Produce in Virginia Beach while waiting for the bus. He held on to dear life until he could not anymore and passed on Tuesday, October 9, around 2 p.m.

Leo loved life, family and friends and we will all miss him. He raised a family of three sons and one daughter after losing his loving wife of 16 years Jacquelyn Liberto to cancer in 1966. He was a father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and great uncle. He had over 20 years of military experience serving in both the Navy and Marines as a medical corpsman and owned an Italian restaurant, Liberto's, in Oceanside, CA. He was honorably discharged in 1968 and received the Bronze star for bravery while serving in the Korean conflict. He continued to serve as a volunteer at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital in Virginia Beach VA. Born in Buffalo, New York Leo spent most of his life in San Diego, CA. He recently moved to Virginia Beach VA. to be near his daughter Tina and her family. He was a man of simple joys loved being around family and friends, played the trumpet and enjoyed listening to music especially Frank Sinatra. He loved walking and talking to people he met along the way, he never met a stranger. He enjoyed golf, fishing, horse racing, and watching football and baseball with friends and family. He was a movie extra in 15 films while living in San Diego. Nobody could have loved life more than Leo. His favorite quote is "Everyone wants to be someone, but I just want to be me". He is leaving behind a sister Rose (Liberto) Sparacio,(deceased husband Sam) Buffalo NY, daughter, Tina (Liberto) Morin husband Robert, Virginia Beach, sons Leonard Liberto III, and longtime girlfriend Marjorie Botelho Kingman, AZ, Timothy Liberto Kauai, Hawaii. Grandchildren - Rachael Mirisola, Ceasar Morin, Virginia Beach, Sara and Angela Liberto, Kauai, HI, Leo Liberto and wife Cristina of Las Vegas NV, Robert Anthony Liberto and wife Shelly of Kingman AZ, Great Grandsons-Robert Anthony Liberto Jr. of Kingman Az., Nicholas Liberto of Las Vegas NV, Great Granddaughters - Cara Liberto of Las Vegas NV, Savannah Liberto of Kingman AZ. Pete and Cindy Mirisola Orlando, FL. Also he will be greatly missed by his large family in Buffalo, NY sister Rose Liberto which includes nieces, Michele Gregory, husband Richard, Roselle Fairl, husband Rob, Natalie Douglas, husband Jeffrey and Nephew Mark Liberto, sister in law Delores Liberto (deceased husband/brother Don), nephews, Lenny, wife Lenora, Robert wife Darlene, Dominic, Ronald, wife Judy, Vincent, Thomas, Gregory, wife Holly Liberto, and many grand nieces and nephews. We love you Dad, you went away too soon
