Norfolk, VA — Lougenia Byrd, 80, of Norfolk, Virginia, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, in Virginia Beach. Born on December 10, 1945, in Gastonia, North Carolina, Lougenia devoted her life to caring for others. After completing four years of college in New York, she followed her true calling and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), a role through which she served with compassion and grace.

Lougenia’s nursing career spanned both New York and Virginia, where she was admired for her gentle presence, her kindness, and her unwavering dedication to the well being of her patients. Her work touched countless lives, and her legacy of care will continue to live on through those she helped and comforted.

She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Mary Elizabeth Byrd; four brothers; three sisters; and one grandchild. She leaves behind her loving sister, Shirley Irvin, and two brothers, Reggie and Samuel Byrd. She is also survived by her daughter, Charitta Denise Johnson, her son, Bennie, six first generation grandchildren, seven second generation great grandchildren, and a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
