Obituary For Maj Elisabet Parmer
Maj Elisabet Parmer, a devoted mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, in Chesapeake, Virginia, at the age of 91.
Born on August 21, 1934, in Stockholm, Sweden, Maj lived a life defined by courage, kindness, and a deep care for others. As a young woman, she traveled from Sweden to England, guided not only by opportunity but by a spirit of adventure—perhaps a reflection of her Scandinavian roots—that would shape the course of her life. Her journey eventually led her to the United States, where she built her life and family.
Later in life, Maj worked as an EKG Technician, where she was able to extend her natural compassion to those in her care.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lawrence Darwin Parmer; her father, Martin Vilhelm Holmberg; and her mother, Astrid Josefina (Karlsson) Holmberg.
She is lovingly remembered by her son, Stephan Holmberg, and his wife, Claudia, along with her grandchildren and extended family. Maj embraced her role as a grandmother with an open heart, loving each child in her family fully and unconditionally.
Maj had a natural gift for connecting with people and truly never met a stranger. She could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. Over time, neighbors and even local store clerks came to know her and look forward to her visits. Her friendly spirit and genuine interest in others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to cross her path.
Maj will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her kindness, and the love she shared so freely. Her presence brought comfort to many, and her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
In accordance with her family’s wishes, no services are planned at this time. Arrangements are being handled by Simply Cremation.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Maj to the Brandywine Valley SPCA (https://bvspca.org/donate/donation-form). Maj had a lifelong love of animals, and it was her wish that others continue to support and care for them.
Friends and family are invited to share memories and condolences online at SimplyCremationOnline.com.
