Obituary For Marilyn Annette Rayhorn

Marilyn Annette Rayhorn, born on January 30, 1944, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at the age of 81.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Keith Wilson Rayhorn, as well as her parents, Martha Isabell Hurr and Clarence Frederick Hurr. She is survived by a son & daughter, brother, sisters-in-law, lifelong friends, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Throughout her life, Marilyn touched the lives of those around her with her kindness and gentle spirit. From her roots growing up on a farm in her hometown of Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania, to her lifetime home in Portsmouth, Virginia, she touched many lives. Along the way, she has worn many hats: housewife, mother & grandmother being the most important. Her many other joys in life included bowling, Saturday night card games, and attending a multitude of youth soccer, baseball, basketball & football games. Probably her very favorite was sitting out on the back deck either drinking coffee while reading a good book or with a glass of wine enjoying time with special friends & family.

Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. We will cherish her memory.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) would be appreciated. Please help put an end to this terrible disease.

No immediate memorial is planned; however, a “Celebration of Life” will be set up in the future. Please contact a family member for more information.

Simply Cremation is handling the arrangements.

Marilyn was the best sister a brother could ask for. She had a love for her family and animals and loved to laugh and have fun especially those late night card games. So many great memories of her and Keith growing up back in Pennsylvania. They always had time for me and my brother taking us places. I am going to miss my beautiful sister so much. God bless you.

I am so sorry to hear about Marilyn's passing. Though it has been many years since I last saw her, she holds a special place in my childhood memories. I'll always remember the joy of stopping by Mr. and Mrs. Rayhorn's house to say hello, spending summer days by the pool, and the warmth of their annual Christmas Eve gatherings. While we weren't related by blood, they always felt like family to me—and Marilyn will be remembered and missed with that same deep affection. Sending my love.
