Mark Barry Grimes, 61, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 20, 2022. A proud native of Craddock, he was born on September 30, 1960, in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Joshua Lineer Grimes IV and Donna Jean Webber, and his brother John Michael Grimes. He is survived by his wife, Terri Leigh Grimes and children Jeremy Lineer Grimes, David Alexander Grimes and Abbi May Grimes, stepdaughter Alanna Nichole-Smith Davis, as well as his grandchildren, Caleb Lineer Grimes, Gianna Serenity Grimes, Alexia Carol Anne Grimes, Larissa Ashley Grimes, Haisley Belle Bryan and his great-grand son Braylen Lineer Grimes, his brothers Joshua Lineer Grimes V and David Keith Grimes, niece Tiffany Gonzalo and nephew Anthony Grimes.

Mark was a highly skilled drywall finisher, a skill and art he taught to both of his sons. He spent many years traveling the country with his trade and returned to the Eastern Virginia and North Carolina area to settle down with his family. Mark’s greatest pride was his children, grandchildren and his great-grandson and often said his purpose in life was to be a father, the role he fulfilled the best. He spent the last part of his life living on the water in Grandy, NC, achieving his lifelong dream to live on the water of the Outer Banks.

Mark loved fishing, boating, camping, golfing, surfing and music and was known for his amazing sense of humor and funny stories and anecdotes. He was known for his famous seafood feasts of oysters and blue crabs. Mark had a kind and generous heart and was always there for a friend or family member in need.

A celebration of life will be held at Sturtevant Funeral Home on 5201 Portsmouth Blvd, Portsmouth VA, on Wednesday, August 31 , 2022 at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Carolina Coastal Federation (www.nccoast.org) or to the American Cancer Society.
